/ DESCRIPTION
Words can hardly do justice to the northern lights — it’s something you have to see with your own eyes. Aurora Experts has built a 93% sighting rate every season, and we’re proud recipients of TripAdvisor’s Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best award, placing us in the top 1% of experiences worldwide.
Every day, our team — locals, born and raised under these same skies — tracks the aurora forecast ahead of the evening: solar activity, cloud cover, all of it. We only head out when the conditions genuinely give you a good chance. If it looks promising, we’ll send a confirmation email, so keep an eye on your inbox (and spam folder) on the day of your tour.
We keep every group small — a maximum of 18 passengers, a small group guarantee that’s hard to find in Iceland. Being locals, we take you to our own secret spots, far from other tour groups, so you get full privacy for the night.
Once we reach the spot chosen for the evening — usually 30–40 minutes outside the city — we park and set up your gear. This becomes our basecamp for the night, unless the clouds shift and we need to move somewhere clearer.
We’re the only northern lights operator in Iceland providing warm winter snowsuits and outdoor chairs on location, so you can stay comfortable in the Arctic cold while you wait. We’ll have snacks and hot cocoa ready too — dried fish, cinnamon rolls, pastries, chocolate treats, and tea.
Our guides are also some of Iceland’s most recognized northern lights photographers, and professional photography is included on every tour, free of charge. You’ll get an online gallery link to download your photos within 24 hours.
And if the lights don’t show? You’re welcome back on us — a free reattempt, subject to availability, no additional cost.
