ICELAND’S MOST HONEST AURORA TOUR

A 93% sighting rate every season — built on science, patience, and telling you the truth.

Two Aurora Experts guests under a red and green aurora in Iceland

/ THE MAGIC

It Never Gets Old

There’s a moment on every successful tour. The sky begins to glow, a faint green arc appears on the horizon, and someone whispers “is that…?” Then it erupts — ribbons of light stretching across the whole sky, pulsing and shifting as if alive. Grown adults gasp like children. Someone starts crying. And after thousands of hours beneath the aurora, I still get goosebumps every single time.

But here’s what most people never see: the work that surrounds each tour. The hunt itself runs 4–5 hours. Add cleaning and preparing the vehicle, making the traditional Icelandic snacks and hot cocoa, and 4–5 hours monitoring satellite data, comparing forecast models, and deciding whether tonight is worth it. That’s 10–12 hours of work behind every tour you take with us.

We don’t just drive out and hope. We chase the magic — honestly, and only when the forecast says you have a real chance.

Why Book With Us

The Science, Not the KP Index

Most operators rely on the KP index — which is nearly useless for predicting the aurora. We track the Bz level, live satellite data from the DSCOVR probe, and five separate forecast models. That’s what actually matters, and it’s how we know when the lights are coming.

We Only Go When It’s Worth It

If the forecast says you don’t have a fair chance, we cancel — and give you a full refund or a reschedule. No locking you into a re-try credit. Many operators go out anyway under pressure from resellers, on nights they know are hopeless. We won’t.

We Stay Longer If We Need To

Most tours run to a fixed schedule and head home whether or not the sky has done anything. We don’t. If the forecast shows the lights are still coming, we wait. We’re not watching the clock. We’re watching the sky.

Warm Snowsuits & Chairs

We're the only operator in Iceland providing warm winter snowsuits in all sizes and comfortable outdoor chairs on location. When you're warm, you can stay for the real show — hot cocoa in hand, watching the sky dance, however long it takes.

Small & Nimble

While big buses are locked into fixed routes and schedules, we move. If clouds roll in but a clear window opens 30 minutes north, we go north. Small groups mean we can chase clear skies, adapt in real time, and stay as long as the lights need.

Why Our Success Rate Stands Out

A 93% sighting rate every season, far above the industry average — that’s not luck, and it’s not magic. It’s meticulous preparation, real scientific understanding, the willingness to cancel when conditions don’t support success, and the patience to wait when the forecast says the show is coming.

We’re not the cheapest option. We’re not the biggest operation. But after hundreds of tours under Icelandic skies, we are the most honest — and our guests’ words speak for themselves.

I can’t say enough good things about Heimir and the Aurora Experts. Without Heimir’s many years of experience I believe we would have never seen the lights on our entire trip. He was so knowledgeable and personable, he made this excursion very special! If we ever go back to Iceland I would most certainly book with him again.

Heimir is so passionate about northern lights as he was born and raised in Iceland, very knowledgeable and even a great photographer! He informed us of the weather condition and kept everything realistic and we ended up seeing the most amazing northern lights dancing in front of our eyes. I will never forget that experience!!

Heimir is an absolutely incredible host. While I understand that seeing the lights are no guarantee, he found them for us and they put on a spectacular show. Heimir is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic, he made the trip insanely fun.

Heimir gave us one of the most magical experiences of our entire trip. He went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable, providing warm snow suits, delicious hot chocolate, and wonderful Icelandic treats while we waited for the lights to appear. Heimir is truly a gem of a person — kind, thoughtful, and genuinely passionate about sharing the beauty of Iceland. He is also an incredible photographer.
